Sorry it's been a while but we haven't had a lot to report. Ashling is very content these days but her breathing doesn't seem to be making much progress. It seems that she progressed too quickly after the surgery and then crashed. It now looks like it may take a while for her lung to inflate and grow into the space that has been provided by the surgery. We also just found out that she has a broken rib from the surgery so that has compromised her further. The good thing is that she is growing nicely, which is a big positive and the doctors are telling us that in time her breathing will improve as she gets stronger.
As you can see from the pictures she is sporting two white casts on her legs. They go up to the top of her thigh . The idea of them is to help flatten and straighten her feet and knees. They are on for six weeks and will be replaced once a week. This is her second week of them and she doesn't seem to mind having them too much. They are quite heavy so she's lucky that she has a sedentry lifestyle!
Ger, Caroline and little baby Ashling. Wishing ye all the very best from Roscommon. Only found out today the hardship that ye have all gone through over the past few months, and i sincerely hope the worst is over. Faron.

ReplyDeleteYou can not imagine how honoured we feel to be part of this little angel's journey.
Thank you so much for sharing such an intimate, special time with us. We are really touched and keep praying and sending loving wishes to little Ashling and blessed parents.
Luis and I will be in Auckland on the 26th December for one night and if possible would love the opportunity to say hello at least over the phone. We do not want to interfere with your lives at all, just want to let you know we are constantly thinking about you all and send you all our love.
Keep strong
Sonia & Luis
Hey there Ger, Caroline and your beautiful princess Ashling, Thankyou for setting up this site its fantastic to be able to map ye're journey. Though we cant even begin to imagine how tough its been, be assured that éverybodies thoughts and prayers are with you all..
ReplyDeleteIts great news that Ashling is making good headway with her growth..as thats really important to enable her little organs and cells to repair themselves after such extensive surgery. That milk of yours Caroline coupled with the endless love that you all have for each other is working a storm.
Its great to hear that those social skills are developing to full potential just like her parents.. a smile goes a long way.
Sounds like the team there are superb..
Hope that like Ashling, you are both fueling yourselves with food and drink as she needs mummy and daddy to remain strong too.. Talk to ye again soon
Lots of love
Mairead and Keith xxxxxx

Thinking of you as always and I'm glad that while Ashling hasn't made the progress you had wished for, she is still doing okay and looking bigger and cuter everytime you post a pic and I am reminded of our Emily with her "snorkle" on all those years ago! Hope she keeps up the good work and that lung gets working more and more each day.

ReplyDeleteHi Caroline, Gerry and little Ashling - although not really that little anymore! You must be so happy that she is growing so well, the bigger she is the stronger she will be to get through this difficult time. We think of you all often and Grete and Skye send their smiles and can't wait to play with Ashling when she is better. Take care, lots of love Kirianne xx
